Jordan Operates Avitech AFTN /AMHS system

02/01/2009

The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) out of its Commitment towards safety and efficiency has developed a comprehensive plan for the modernization of the ANS infrastructure, starting with the implementation of the AFTN/AMHS system awaiting for other centers to connect with very soon.

The Avitech AG who was awarded this project on November 2007, has installed, tested, commissioned, on the 4th of December 2008, and now fully operational, a new AFTN/AMHS at Amman AFTN Center, one of the main centers of the Middle East region.

Jordan CARC is one of the few countries that now use AMHS technology to enhance the network performance through the timely provision and quality assured data, taking into account the integrity requirements of the aeronautical information handling.

Introduction of an AFTN/AMHS system, is an important step in the modernization of the AFTN network, serving 22 internal user, 3 adjacent centers meanwhile 2 other centers are not connected due to the other site infrastructure inadequacy.

2.3 The CARC, believing that information sharing with the aviation industry and ANS family will be the back bone of aviation efficiency, and would like to inform the other AFTN centers of our readiness to connect through AMHS channels and test the performance of the new technology already adopted.

The System supports AMHS and AFTN providing an AFTN/AMHS gateway, thus ensuring interoperability between the AFTN and the AMHS networks, conformant to ICAO standards facilitating, among other things, routing and relaying of messages, storing, message retrieval and repetition functions and ensuring zero message loss in case of system restart.
